As we spend more and more time sitting or at home playing games, we frequently experience repercussions on our backs. It is evident that this phenomenon has intensified due to telecommuting and is now affecting a greater number of people.
This is why the market for ergonomic chairs is booming. In this context, we will present the main advantages, as well as some tips for making the right choice.
Unlike traditional office chairs, ergonomic chairs allow for perfect morphology adjustment. Depending on the model, the mechanisms will not always be in the same places. Still, all ergonomic chairs offer more or less the same possibilities. The benefits for the back, leg fatigue, and, in turn, the quality of work over the long term are undeniable.
In order to properly adjust your seat, your backrest, and the other parts of the chair, we recommend that you sit on the bottom of the chair and keep your back in contact with the backrest to feel its surface.
The adjustment of the seat
It's crucial to adjust the seat height to ensure your legs are completely comfortable and relaxed, avoiding the risk of creating muscular tension. We recommend putting the chair in the highest position and then operating the mechanism (generally located on the right, under the seat) until you feel it is the ideal place.
If your feet are flat on the ground, your legs are relaxed, forming an angle of about 90°, and your thighs are approximately parallel to the floor, you will feel it without any problem. If you lower the seat too much, you can repeat the operation. However, this time, halt the manipulation of the relevant lever at a position that is comfortable for you.
Adjusting the depth of the seat is also important. It is ideal to keep a space between the inside of your knees and the end of the seat. If the seat rubs too hard, it can restrict blood circulation, causing you pain or discomfort. You can adjust the seat's inclination on some models, which is also a wise manipulation!
Adjustment of the backrest
Adjusting the height and inclination of the backrest involves two distinct steps. To adjust the height of the backrest, there is usually a knob at the back. Unscrew it to slide the backrest up and down to support your back. The backrest should perfectly follow the curve of your back, filling the hollow of your back.
Use the appropriate mechanism to release the backrest and allow it to recline freely, then place your upper body weight on it. When you feel that you have found the ideal position, return the mechanism to the locking position. Just like in a car, it's common to adjust the tilt slightly throughout the day, so feel free to repeat this process two or three times a day, or even more if you experience fatigue.
Armrest adjustment
You can adjust the armrests' width and height. Put them in line with your shoulders and about the same distance apart for width. For height, adjust the armrests so your arms form a 90° angle when vous rest.
As you can see, an ergonomic chair will improve your work and desk comfort. However, finding the proper adjustment that corresponds to your morphology is essential. Studies recognize and prove the virtues and benefits of the ergonomic chair when adjusted appropriately.
